GEORGES CHAMPION
French Modernist designer Georges Champion was born in Chaumont in 1889. He participated in the salons of the Societe des Artistes Decorateurs and Salon d'Automne in the 1920s, as well as the pivotal 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes. Champion design aesthetic was Modernist clean forms with simple planes In 1928 he became artistic director of Studio Gue, the decorating department of the firm Georges et Gaston Guerin in Paris. In 1930 he opened Atelier 75. With Jacques Guenne he managed the journal l'Art Vivant which published the works of young artists. in 1937 he won a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne.
